Throw-It-Back THURSDAY EP#2
The second track from the back catalogue is:
‘what i believe’
[from the album separate, 2010]
Part of the ‘group of 5’ recordings i released (against all friendly advice) on the same day in 2010, ‘stamen’ was a sharp departure for me in terms of concept and sonic approach. I wanted to build every track on the foundation of a vintage drum machine rhythm. Little did i know it was to be a concept album about the dissolution of a relationship; one i had hoped could save me. There is a strange naïveté to the 6 tracks on this album, belying the darkness within.
On first listen, the entire recording seems to be at odds with the hopelessness and sense of loss i felt from the disintegration of my marriage, and while it is never stated just ‘what i believe’, it is apparent that the two people involved could not mend their growing apart.
I like that there is a little surprise element toward the end of each track, and ‘what i believe’ contains one of my favourite little surprises.
